The Best Tools and Apps for Productivity

Snow in winter is a beautiful, and dangerous thing. Once while we were vacationing in Washington, we drove through the mountains and experienced our first avalanche. Thankfully, no one was hurt, but it took out a road just a half a mile or so in front of us. It derailed all of our plans. It amazed me how just a few flakes of snow falling over the edge could generate enough momentum and power to wipe out everything in its path. The right productivity tools are a lot like that.

Here are just a few of our favorites:

Evernote

Evernote is a sanity saver for many. The ability to quickly save notes, photos, videos, and other research at the click of a button is so worth it. You can jot your ideas, add pictures from your phone, clip information from websites, and organize it all in a notebook custom made for you. Then, when you are ready to complete a similar project, all of the footwork is done and visible in one place.

Mindmeister

This is the proverbial brain dump, done digitally. It is so easy to create a mind map using this software. The click and drag features, organizational tools, and graphics options make it fun even. The best part is the ability to sync it on all your devices.

Canva

This app is one of my secret weapons. There is no limit to the amount of graphics, social media covers, headers, presentations, and even business cards you can create. Did I mention that you can program it with your business colors, typography, and logo? Oh, you don’t have a logo? They can help with a basic version of that too. The bonus with this one is that there is a “Design School” that teaches you how to use the program for maximum results. This one is a no-brainer.

Todoist

I love a to-do list. It’s the epitome of productivity for me. Todoist is amazing its capacity to motivate you. For those who like pats on the back or endorphin rushes from checking things off the list, this app is for you. The best part is that keeps score. A wise man once said, the only person standing in your way is yourself. Todoist can help you get out of the way.

Rescue Time

This app is like your productivity paramedic! It tracks your ever visit, click, and keystroke to let you know where your time is going. Then, it can assess that tie and offered upgrades to temporarily block specific sites or apps that distract you. You can also receive notifications when you are getting to carried away playing that new game you downloaded.
