When you begin planning for holidays or vacation, there are some decisions that you must to come to:
- What is our destination?
- Should we fly or drive?
- What route should we take?
- Where should we stop along the way?
- What places should we visit?
- What will we need to get there and to maintain upkeep while we are there?
- Why are we going?
- How much will it cost?
These are the questions we must answer. If you don’t, then your trip would be equivalent to driving off with a blindfold on and hoping that you end up somewhere you want to be. The chances of that happening are slim to none because you would probably get frustrated because you aren’t sure where you are or where you are going; get in a wreck, or end up somewhere you never intended to be and don’t enjoy.
Owning your own business is a journey. As with any adventure, there are many roads one can travel to reach the desired destination. We don’t all want to travel to the same places or go the same way so why should we all use the same map? We must create our unique journey. Some may want to travel the back roads and soak up all of the scenery. Some may wish to go by interstates and make calculated stops along the way. Still, some may want to toss the map altogether and start traveling. Each traveler will take something personal away from the journey. Let’s begin yours, shall we?
I’ve had quite a bit of help when it comes to my journey. I didn’t get this smart all by myself. Co-working and meeting others with various skills and gleaning from there wisdom is how I got to where I am today.
Along the way, these generous souls have taught me how to simplify my entrepreneurial experience while getting maximum results. I like that. One of the most excellent tools a mentor gave me was about planning. She said, (and I’m paraphrasing here) “The key to successful business is proper planning. Sometimes you have to be willing to dress your kids in winter garb and put up the Christmas tree in October. Why? Because that is how you are ready to offer holiday services mid-November. You must post about holidays and events weeks before they happen to influence your potential clients and obtain leads.”
That is some good advice.
